Top 5 Places to Stay at Walt Disney World for Big Families

Planning a trip to Walt Disney World with a big family? Finding the perfect place to stay can be a challenge—especially when you have more than four people in your group. Our family of six has experienced the struggle firsthand, so we’ve put together a list of our top five favorite places to stay at WDW.
Each of these options provides unique benefits, whether you’re looking for space, affordability, or convenience.
5. Saratoga Springs Resort
When we stayed at Saratoga Springs, we used Disney Vacation Points from dvcrental.com. While this was a bit pricier, it allowed us to book a two-bedroom villa with plenty of space.
✅ Pros:
Large rooms with plenty of space
Full access to Disney transportation
No need to buy into a Disney timeshare
Great for families who want a relaxed, spacious stay
❌ Cons:
More expensive than other options
A little farther from the parks
If you want a comfortable stay and aren’t solely focused on park time, Saratoga Springs is a fantastic choice.
4. Rental House in Windermere
At Disney, you’ll either pay in money or pay in time—it all depends on what you’re willing to sacrifice. If staying off-property works for your family, we highly recommend renting a house in Windermere, Kissimmee.
✅ Pros:
Affordable homes that can accommodate large groups
Many rentals include private pools
Close to Animal Kingdom
Avoids major traffic coming into the parks
❌ Cons:
You’ll need to drive to the parks
Parking fees and transportation hassles
We used VRBO to book rentals and always had a great experience!
3. Pop Century Resort
Our family loves Pop Century mainly because of the Skyliner! This budget-friendly resort makes getting to Epcot and Hollywood Studios super easy.
✅ Pros:
Skyliner access = no crowded buses
Affordable compared to other Disney resorts
Nostalgic, fun theming
❌ Cons:
Max room capacity is 4, so we had to book two rooms
Not ideal for families with younger kids who need to stay together
If you need space for 6, check out Art of Animation, located right next door!
2. Port Orleans: French Quarter
Considered a moderate resort, Port Orleans: French Quarter is one of Disney’s smallest and most charming resorts.
✅ Pros:
Relaxing, quiet atmosphere
Private bus most of the time (less waiting)
Amazing Cajun food
❌ Cons:
Max room capacity is 4
Not as cheap as budget resorts
For families of 5, Port Orleans Riverside is another option, but it’s much larger and has longer bus routes. French Quarter is still our top pick for ambiance and charm!
1. Fort Wilderness Cabins – Our #1 Pick!
If you want to truly relax after a busy park day, Fort Wilderness Cabins are the way to go! These spacious cabins sleep up to 6 people comfortably.
✅ Pros:
Peaceful, quiet atmosphere
Tons of activities—our kids loved it so much they wanted a rest day at the resort!
Boats + bus access to the parks
❌ Cons:
Slightly more expensive than budget options
Huge resort—renting a golf cart is highly recommended
After trying almost every resort at WDW, this remains our family’s favorite. The space, transportation options, and relaxing vibe make it the perfect choice for big families.
